Egypt made international Para sport history by hosting the Cairo 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships at the Egypt International Olympic Games City in the New Administrative Capital from 9 to 18 October 2025.
Marking the first time ever the World Championships were staged on the African continent, the tournament welcomed over 70 nations and served as the first mandatory qualification pathway event for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
Team Egypt shone on home soil, highlighted by Paralympic champion Mohamed Elmenyawy capturing the men’s 59 kg World Championship gold medal alongside strong podium finishes across elite and Next Gen categories.
